DTCetc’s Take

About Genusee

Genusee is an eyewear brand founded with a mission to make a positive impact on the environment and the community by upcycling single-use plastic water bottles into stylish, high-quality eyewear. Each purchase upcycles 15 water bottles and creates jobs for returning citizens in the Flint community. Genusee is committed to reducing localized plastic waste and creating living wage jobs for those who have been displaced due to the outsourcing of the auto industry. They prioritize the use of pre-existing materials in the supply chain over creating new ones, encouraging a circular economy. Genusee also has a unique Buy-Back Program that allows customers to take responsibility for their eyeglasses in the ecosystem. 1% of profits are donated to the Community Fund of Greater Flint, which supports children's health and education in Flint. With Genusee, customers can make a positive impact on the world while looking stylish and feeling good about their purchase.

Who Shops At Genusee

Genusee appeals to environmentally conscious individuals who value sustainability, social impact, and stylish eyewear. What customers love about Genusee

Here's what shoppers have to say:
  • The idea of recycling single-use plastic bottles into everyday necessities is intriguing and innovative.
  • The frames are sturdy, attractive, and enjoyable to wear.
  • The company's commitment to creating jobs in Flint and giving back to the community is commendable.
  • Delivery time was reasonable and the prescription process was smooth.
  • Customers hope for more frame selections and variety in the future.
  • There is potential for the company to expand their use of recycled plastic to create even more useful products.
Cons
  • The eco-friendly and sustainable aspect of the sunglasses may not justify the higher price for some consumers
  • The cost of each pair is relatively expensive compared to other non-sustainable options on the market
  • While the quality of the sunglasses is good, it may not be worth the investment for those looking for a more affordable option

Genusee's Shipping Policy

Genusee offers free standard shipping on orders over $150 within the continental US. For non-prescription orders, most items are shipped within 5-7 days and estimated delivery time is 3-8 business days. Prescription glasses take 7-10 business days for the optical lab to complete the lenses. Expedited shipping options are available for rush orders, but they only ship and deliver expedited options on weekdays, and the cutoff for same-day shipping is 12:30pm EST. International shipping is also available, but taxes and duties are not included and are the responsibility of the customer. The brand charges a $30 restocking fee for international order returns.

Genusee's Return Policy

Genusee offers a 30-day return policy for their glasses. To be eligible for a full refund, the glasses must be returned in their original packaging, in new, unworn condition, unaltered, and undamaged. Return shipping is free within the US, with a $30 restocking fee for international customers. Exchanges are also available within 30 days of delivery for a different color, style, or reader magnification, with a one-time, free of charge exchange. Prescription glasses are subject to the same return policies with a 30% restocking fee deducted from the refund. Genusee's manufacturer's warranty covers their eyewear for 180-days, replacing glasses at their discretion if suffering from a manufacturing defect. Returns postmarked outside of the 30-day policy are ineligible for a refund but will automatically be processed for an online credit. Returns are processed in 3-5 business days and may take an additional 3-5 business days to post to the original form of payment.
